Long time... no blog! Well... as many of you who actually check out this blog, you will have noticed that I haven't been keeping everyone up to date lately.
Firstly I think it's because Johnson and I were running out of steam. We found it a bit ambitious of us to have our transplant this year, and try to raise $25,000.00 too! Our Family Fun Fair and our Volleyball Tournaments took alot out of us physically, as well as mentally.
A few setbacks with the CDA trying to get our online accounts working again properly, discouraged us a bit, but attending last nights Team Diabetes Night at the A-Channel, helped to re-inspire us again as to what our true objectives are and helped to re-affirm why we are doing what we are doing.
Yesterday was a memorable anniversary for Johnson and I. September 11th is the first day we entered into the world of dialysis. That's the day I started my online journal, and the day that Johnson had his peritoneal catheter extracted to start dialysis. It was emotional for both of us... in fact... I think that Johnson and I are really just starting to deal with all of the emotions from last year. Sometimes it just takes time for it to all sink in. Last year we were on auto pilot... just getting through each day at a time. This year... is a year of reflection.
Johnson and I are planning our next fundraiser within CRAZY timelines. We started planning last Saturday and hope to host our 1st Annual Ball Hockey Tournament at St. Louis's Restaurant on Elgin Street on Saturday October 6th. We are hoping to raise $10,000 so it is alot of planning in such a short time period.
We are also trying to host with the Lions Club in Barrhaven a 5km walk on Saturday November 3rd to help raise awareness about Diabetes, and to support Diabetes Awareness month.
Whew... all that plus our trip to Tofino in August!! My little sisters wedding was spectacular, the skies opened up nicely that afternoon... the rains stopped, and she had her beach wedding after all. It was a stressful trip however... just sharing accomodations with so many people, Johnson and I felt that we never had 1 second alone or with the kids. What we really need is a vacation from that vacation. Tofino is beautiful...I'll give it that... but the weather SUCKED royally, and rained 6 of the 7 days we were there. Now that's alot of money to pay for a rain soaked vacation.
Stephanie and Taylor our little girls got to be flower girls... which was great! They've been waiting their whole lives to do this job Jo-Jo! I was the Matron of Honor, and really enjoyed giving my speech, about how amazing my little sister is. Instead of buying wedding favors for everyone, they made a donation to the CDA on everyone's behalf instead! THANKS JO!
So... we'll talk to you all soon! Must get busy with our next fundraiser, and BUSY writing our Thank You letters and Letters of Acknowledgment for donated prizes. What a difference a year makes! What a whirlwind!
Cheers everyone!
