So here we are in the final stretch of our fundraising campaign. Only $900.00 to go! I can't believe it! This is me and my honey heading out for a Charity Casino night with our office. It was a formal affair, and if I do say... we clean up nicely! HA HA!! We were sooooo exhausted in this photo, and didn't really want to go out at all. Sooo tired we were from all the planning and work that went into our Charity Ball Hockey event, but well worth all the work and planning! We raised over $5,100 for the CDA! Thanks to everyone especially Jean and Sylvie who kept hounding us to do this event! We were sooo tired and didn't want to host any more events, but.... when you have good friends with big hearts pushing you, it's hard to say NO!
So our day was a huge success... it drizzled rain, but it didn't matter! I fought with many city officials for days leading up to the event for a street closure, but with no success! I tell you... all Blessings in disguise. This way I needed a back up plan, so we had the community centre across the street grant us permission to use the indoor gym, as well as their outdoor tennis courts. So with a very rainy day, it was a blessing to be able to play inside. Actually most of the guys still preferred to play in the rain! Of course... because they are men and don't care if their hair get's all yucky!! HA HA!! Over 50 teams played!
Our silent auction (70 items) was a big success, but required an awful lot of work! Belly... our own Ottawa rapper came out, and despite there not being too many people in the restaurant at the time, still signed boxes of CD's and allowed us to take a few photographs with him! He and his CREW were awesome!
Our friends Dave and Debbie (Molson rep and father and mother of the owner of the restaurant) were amazing. They offered us soooo much help and without their help and donations, I'm sure we would not have been as successful! So thanks Dave and Debbie!
And LUKE... Owner of St. Louis Wings and Ribs... A HUGE THANK YOU! Next year??? Bigger and better???
Johnson and I presented all of these wonderful people with a glass embossed award, thanking them for their generous support towards Team Diabetes. It surprised them all!
Thanks to Grandma and Opa for watching the girls all day, and for bringing them out to visit at supper time! Thanks to my little brother JOHN! LOVE YOU BROTHER! He bid $220.00 on 4 tickets to the SENS game that night. His bid included dinner for 4. He never even went to the game! Instead, he gave his niece 2 tickets out, and gave us back 2 tickets to re-auction off for another $80.00! Amazing! Thanks to TONY!!! He came with a big WAD of cash, but didn't manage to leave with any of it! I really felt the love and support from my family and friends! I am humbled and so appreciative!
Johnson, myself and the girls head out this Thursday to BC, where I can't wait to see my little sister Jo-Jo. She took care of our girls when we had our transplant! She's taken two days off to spend with us! She plans on taking the girls to her office (she's a cop)... they will go in her cruiser for the first time, she will take them to jail etc!! What fun! She will attend the awards ceremony on Friday and will witness us receiving the NATIONAL INSPIRATION AWARD! WOW what an honor!
So, that's all for now... we just spent a lovely weekend with the girls not having ANYTHING planned at all! DELIGHTFUL it was! Wish we had more of those this year! Maybe next year! or maybe NOT?! HA HA!
Love to all! Kendra xoxox
